Years ago, I made Christmas pillows for all my friends. While putting away my own decorations, I thought of the new dilemma my friends faced in storing the monstrous pillows during off-seasons. Last year, I discovered the solution.

Seasonal pillow covers.

Pillow covers for seasonal decor save a lot of storage space and allow you to have many in your home. You can easily make envelope pillow covers to quickly slide your home decor pillows inside for a whole new look. Here are some examples for you.

Yes, make pillows using PillowCubes inserts - or skip making a permanent cover, and just cover them temporarily. Either way, you can slide them inside different covers for entirely new looks from time to time. Shirts and jackets from thrift stores make the best pillow covers. The buttons and zippers are already in place. Cut a square on the space you want your closure to be located, along with a back piece from the shirt back.

With right sides together, stitch a seam along all four edges, and you're done. So simple! Just invert and insert your pillow. For the non-sewing crowd, use iron-on hemming tape along the edges instead of a seam. It works like a charm! Use hot glue to add trims, ribbons, and tassels.

When we stick to a few consistent pillow sizes, seasonal pillow covers in those sizes allows for many different looks. Do you get the idea? You have basic pillows matching your decor for any time of year. During special seasons, slip the covers over your pillows for a new look entirely. Don't you love the versatility of that? I've already shared with you how to make a pillow cover from a sweater. You'll learn more of these easy techniques in the future here on the PillowCubes blog. Have fun covering your pillow inserts! :-)
