I discovered recently that most tea towels are the right size to make pillow covers for PillowCubes 12" x 16" inserts.

These covers are very easy to make, and quick, too.

christmas tea towels

Spread your chosen tea towel face down on a flat surface.

pillow insert

Place the pillow insert to the upper portion of the tea towel and wrap the bottom edge up over the pillow.

pillow form

Fold the upper edge down over the pillow. You want this edge to fall at or just above the half-way point across the front.

Hold the towel at the overlap along one edge and slide the insert out. Flatten and straighten the towel and check your measurements. The tea towel should be folded to 12" in height from upper fold to lower fold. Pin along both sides.

pinning pillow fabric

Stitch each side along the towel's turned edge hem.

sewing pillow covers

Cut two pieces of ribbon cut about 15"-20" long. Fold one end 1/4" twice and press. Repeat with other ribbon.

pillow ribbon

Stitch the first ribbon to the center of the overlap section.

seasonal ribbon

Stitch the other ribbon to the center of the under section just below the overlap edge.

making seasonal pillows

Insert pillow form and tie ribbon.

Enjoy your new Christmas pillow cover!
